Fine Impressions honors Memorial Day

fineimpThe fine prints available at Fine Impressions Gallery, 8300 5th. Avenue NE, is, in many ways, a walk through history. This month they are featuring prints honoring fallen heroes . Did you know that Memorial Day was called Decoration Day until after the Civil War? Shown is Manassas, a mezzotint by Chris Nowicki, an abstract commemoration of the place where the first and second Battles of Bull Run were fought. Despite both these Confederate victories, Manassas was in Union hands for most of the war.

Leslie Cain’s landscapes at Waterworks Gallery thru June 3

waterworksFarmer’s daughter Leslie Cain interprets the Northwest landscape in a new way–using pastels on gessoed board. On view through June 3, her work encompasses  the land and waters of the San Juans to the fertile valleys of the Eastern Washington.  A reception for the artist is on May 18 from 4-7pm at Waterworks Gallery, 315 Argyle Street in Friday Harbor. The art of Dr. Seuss at Gunnar Nordstrom Gallery

gundrseussOn view through June 2 at the Gunnar Nordstrom Gallery, 800 Bellevue Way NE, is "The Art of Dr. Seuss – Rare Editions.” The exhibit offers a rare look into the artistic life of Theodor Seuss Geisel and includes now-rare editions from his Secret Art, Unorthodox Taxidermy Sculpture and Archive Collections. On opening night, May 18, national artist representative Jeff Schuffman will present a brief lecture in the gallery at 7 p.m., providing insights into Geisel’s artistic endeavors, his unique vision and impact on American culture.  Shown: Pink Tufted Beast in a Night Landscapes .

Third Thursday in Edmonds 5-8pm

Showing at the Christopher Gallery, 537 Main Street in Edmonds, is Pacific Northwest photographer and artist Ian Morrison.   Before moving to Washington, Ian taught photography, drawing and electronic arts courses at Grand Canyon University and Glendale Community College, in Arizona.
